Lisa K. Nolan, DVM, Ph.D.

Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies

Professor, Dept. of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine

Research Interests / Areas of Expertise:

Our research focuses on bacterial diseases of production animals, including their effects on animal health, public health and food safety. The long-term goal of one of our projects is to establish the molecular basis of virulence and antimicrobial resistance of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC), the causative agent of colibacillosis, an economically devastating problem for the poultry industry. Establishing the molecular basis of APEC virulence and resistance should lead to more rational approaches for future colibacillosis control strategies. Additionally, we are exploring the possible link between extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) of food animals, such as APEC, and human extraintestinal diseases, such as urinary tract infection, septicemia, and meningitis.
